Sheep on the run in Biggin

We were taking a casual evening walk in Derbyshire when we noticed some unusual action in the village of Biggin. Apparently, some sheep escaped from their field and made a dash into down. They ran past the Waterloo Pub and headed down the main street. Well, I should say the only street. Anyway, they headed down the road.

A bunch broke off from the main group and ran into the front yard (or “garden” as they say in that neck of the woods), and raised a bit of a ruckus. Now we know why everyone has a strong gate at the base of their drives. They were herded back out of the yard, and eventually the sheep retreated back to their home pastures.

We were advised that nothing much happens in Biggin as it is supposed to be a quiet place. We suggested that rampaging sheep is a bit of excitement, and once we got to thinking about it we realized that we have never had a sheep stampede back at home in Westmere. In fact, the only other sheep I recall seeing making a break for it were Nova Scotia, if I recall my incidents correctly.

Biggin is a great place, I’d love to go back there.
