Alvis before the auction in Buxton

We spotted this stunning blue Alvis at the Pavilion Gardens in Buxton, Derbyshire back in July. H & H Classic Car Auctions was preparing for the big sale, which was scheduled for July 19.  We were there a day or so before, so we took the opportunity to inspect the offerings. This Alvis was a real stand-out.

The Alvis Car and Engineering Company built automobiles in Coventry from 1919 to the late 1960s. Their cars were known for their high quality design. They were both luxurious and sporty, to varying degrees. For many years Alvis  supplied bare chassis and drive trains to coachbuilders, who, in turn, created custom coachwork for the discerning client. In later years Alvis was absorbed, so to speak, into Rover.

The car in the photo here did not have information posted as to year or coachbuilder. I assume there was an auction catalog that supplied that information, but we did not have access to one. Still, the stunning blue paint and exquisite body lines caused this Alvis to stand out from a crowd of other excellent cars.
