In the Heart of the Storm

As you know, many of the photographs that I post have been mildly touched up, usually with Photoshop. It is actually rare for a photo to go straight from the camera to the Web without some assistance. In some instances I have done extensive Photoshop work on an image, especially …

Thacher Park View

Here is a 360o from the picnic area near the Haile’s Cave area of Thacher State Park. This is an experiment to find an acceptable panorama view plugin that works in WordPress. So far, this is the best one I have found. The others I have tried are terrible.

If you go about 1/4 mile farther along the road from this site you will come to the gate for the rock climbing access. The views from this entire segment of the park are fabulous. On this day we could see all the way to the Berkshires.

Not bad, eh?

Santa Fe Caboose at Lomita

Santa Fe caboose at the Lomita Railroad Museum
I snapped this photo of an old Santa Fe caboose at the Lomita Railroad Museum in Southern California a few years ago. If you are in the area, be sure to check out this fascinating little museum.  Visit www.lomita-rr-org.

Venice, California

Venice Beach, California
Ready for summer? Tired of staying indoors? Let’s pretend that we are on the beach in Venice, California. This photo is about 10 years old, but it is still a fav.

Antiquing Photos

Color photography is fabulous. As a technical innovation, it was many, many steps ahead of any photo advancements that had come before. But, frankly, there are times when going back to the “old days” of black and white. As you may know, many professional photographers prefer black and white. Even …

Old Number 37

Here's is engine number 37
Unfortunately, I do not remember where or when the photo was taken. It might have been on the Wilmington & Western line in the late 1990s. Scanned from 35mm slide and mildly Photoshopped to correct color errors.

Morris and His Close Personal Friend

It seems like some people just cannot get along.

But our dog pal, Morris, was not like that. He had a large number of friends of all persuasions.  In this photograph we see him with one of his closest pals, Uni the cat.  Like Morris, Uni was rescued from dire circumstances.  He came to live in a nice warm home, and when Morris moved in after his dramatic rescue, Uni was a one-cat welcoming committee.

From the very moment they met, they were friends.  They often spent time together, exactly like you see in this photograph. In fact, very often when Morris went upstairs to the second floor Uni would follow him.  Later, when Uni went back downstairs Morris went along, too.

Morris and Uni did not argue or say bad words to each other.  I am not sure if they agreed on all topics and points of discussion, but if they had their differences it did not show. These two friends never had a disagreement.

That’s pretty amazing, don’t you think?

Narada Falls

Narada Falls in Mt. Rainier National Park. This photograph was taken in the mid-to-late 1990s on Kodak Kodacolor 35mm film. Narada is about 188 feet high and an extremely popular photo stop on the Mt. Rainier Highway.
