Tales from the Theatre: Writings from “Back In the Day”

Waaaay back in 1988 I had an article published in the now-defunct Theatre Crafts magazine. I am making available a PDF of that article, “Sniper Shots” here.  It is, if I may say so, rather interesting.

Back in the day, that being the late 1970s and early ’80s, some new technology was just beginning to be used. Stuff we consider fairly standard these days, such as hydraulics and electronics, were really a “big deal” back then. But, for those of us doing theatre on very tight budgets, these cool things were not possible.

At Lincoln College we were producing Jules Feiffer’s Little Murders. As you may or may not know, there’s a scene that involves a gunshot. Our problem was how to do this effect with the materials on hand, and do it safely and cleverly. This article explains how it was all done.

The article was spread across several pages, so I outlined the pertinent text and numbered them in order.

Have fun reading the article.
