Well, we have another little project on the repair table right now. This is a TEAC A360 cassette deck that I picked up at an estate sale recently.
I apologize for the rather poor photograph. For some reason I had no luck getting proper lighting.
According to the available specification (see HiFi Engine for more information) this model was available in 1973. I have seen sources that say it was made through 1975. Other sources say it was discontinued in 1976.
The A360S was intended to be an audiophile cassette deck. I know, I know … if you are used to modern audio formats that sounds like a misnomer, but rest assured it is accurate.
The frequency response for this deck is 30Hz to 16,000Hz with chromium dioxide tape, which isn’t bad for a cassette deck. It has two heads, one for erase the other for recording and play. It is a rather hefty machine weighing in at around 16 1/2 pounds!
The thing now is to see if this thing actually works. I wasn’t able to test is prior to purchase, so I am hoping for the best. The price was rock-bottom, so I am not worried about the expense if it fails. I have seen examples on eBay with prices ranging all over the place.
