Britain seems to be a bit closer to WWII than the US is. That may be an incorrect impression, but, either way, it should be no surprise. There are any number of museums and memorials dedicated to various aspects of the war, and this is one of them.  Pictured on the right is a memorial to the RAF’s World War II Bomber Command. It is placed in a small memorial park at the Newark Air Museum in Nottinghamshire. You can see that the “topper” is a propeller hub from an aircraft.

On the day I visited the region, in fact nearly the entire nation, was suffering from a drought. Normally, we’d expect to see the lawns a lush green. But, just about any direction you turned the grass was a crunchy brown.  You can imagine how nice this park would look when the rains return.
