Henry Mancini’s Album: The Music of Hawaii

Henry Mancini’s Album: The Music of Hawaii

It appears that my periodic visits to the Restore shop have been paying off recently. This is LP was passed over in the record bins, and to be honest, I can see why. The music is good, don’t get me wrong, but it isn’t exactly what you might expect by reading the title.

Most of the tracks might be called “Hawaiian music by white guys from the Mainland”, but I suppose I am being unfair and harsh. In fact, the music is comes from a variety of sources. The first song is the main theme from the movie Hawaii. A little farther down the list is “The Moon of Manakoora” which is from the 1937 movie Hurricane.

In the late 1960s you couldn’t get away from “Tiny Bubbles” by Leon Pober and performed by Don Ho. Holy jumpin’ cats, it was everywhere! Sure enough, it turns up on this record.

This record features Henry Mancini with his orchestra and chorus. Frankly, that was my main reason for buying it. Also, it was cheap. But you really can’t beat Mancini for good music.
