By a stroke of good luck a friend recently sent a text saying that they were clearing out some old record albums and that I should stop by ASAP to check out what was going to be donated. Needless to say, I buzzed off immediately to check out the collections.
One of the several rather nifty treats was If You Can Believe Your Eyes And Ears by The Mamas and the Papas. Wikipedia notes that this was their first studio album and was released by Dunhill in February of 1966.
The album notes are somewhat over the top and are, I guess you might say, “enthusiastic” about the group. Even after all these years the hit songs that the group recorded are astounding. Who can’t name five or more? Well, maybe a child of the 2010s, but, heck, the tunes are certainly well known even if the titles are vague.
This first album includes hit tracks such as Monday, Monday, California Dreamin’, Spanish Harlem, In Crowd, and more. At the risk of sounding like a 1970s K-Tel commercial, let me just say that this is a knockout LP. I have been playing it on the ol’ disc spinner since I brought it home.
