Caruso in Neapolitan Songs: LP added to the collection

Another recent addition to the collection is an interesting LP titled Caruso In Neapolitan Songs. Honestly and frankly, most opera gives me the Spike Jones Effect, that is, itchy and scratchy. Check out this video to catch the reference.

But, in this case I am willing to make an exception. Everyone has heard of Enrico Caruso, one of the most famous voices of the last 125 years. However, his recordings were all made totally acoustically, and do not even remotely compare to the quality of the records that have been made since the late 1940s.

This LP is a compilation of recordings that were originally made using the acoustic techniques.

A little online research results in some confusion as to whether this LP was made in Germany or the US. But the Discogs database lists the album number, LCT1129, as being the US version. A note on the back cover advises that it does not meet current recording quality standards. Apparently album was published in 1970, but the originals were cut in wax many decades previously. This collections of tracks is obviously significantly cleaned up. As a result, it is a treat to hear the Great Caruso in fairly modern circumstances.
