Chesapeake & Ohio #490

Chesapeak & Ohio #490 Hudson
Chesapeake & Ohio #490 Hudson

This photo of the famous Chesapeake & Ohio Railroad #490 Hudson was taken at the B & O Museum in Baltimore back in 1989. The locomotive is an L-1 class 4-6-4 steamer. It was built by Alco, but not in the Schenectady shops. At the time of this writing, reports indicate that this marvelous machine has been indoors at the museum for a long time, thus preserving it for the future.

Retired United Boeing 727 at the Museum of Flight in Seattle. The 727 was one of the most popular aircraft of its day. It is hard to miss the three rear-mounted engines, especially the center one with the intake above the fuselage and the exhaust under the tail.

Here’s old #31 on the Strasburg Rail Road. Built in 1908, this was built in 1908 by Baldwin in Philadelphia.

This is a photograph of locomotive #31, a Baldwin, on the Strasburg Rail Road in Strasburg, Pennsylvania. The locomotive was built in Philadelphia in 1908.

This photo was snapped along the “Road to Paradise”, which is Strasburg’s line from the Strasburg station to Paradise along Route 30 in Lancaster County. The filmstock was Kodak Kodacolor Gold 35mm.  I recently scanned it from the original negative. This image has been mildly touched up in Photoshop to correct color shift and aging.
